last post on this blog

So I guess I’m basically going to take this blog behind the barn and shoot it… I’m upgrading to Tumblr, a cool service that allows me post very easily from my phone.  I’ll probably leave the blog up for a while since it does have some relatively recent stories. One sad thing is that I don’t have any way to allow comments or upload files on my tumblr blog.  I think I can get around that well enough though, to make it feasible. And finally, this I’m basically switching to “micro-blogging” (*lots* of short posts), so I won’t feel bad if you decide to stop reading this blog, because it is a lot of junk…

Check out my cool new homepage at lucentwarrior.com. I’m beginning to think I really like it (even though it does still need some work).

On other notes, Oswegonislys is down right now for an upgrade…you can watch for updates in the next week or so. Verda is getting a subsite to sell her dogs with.  Any suggestions for names?

I have…

Posted on Friday 7 December 2007

I have this very interesting and amazing little sister. She very much resembles one of her big sisters in that it is best not to attempt any direct communication with her for the first 2 hours after she wakes up. It’s just better that way. Following is a very perceptive quote from a story Verda wrote about how she wakes up. I thought it was very amusing. BTW, you should request the whole bloody story from her.

I give them the “good morning” nod and continue my work in the only silence they’ll have from me all day.

[My emphasis]

Why to Work at Labette Health

Posted on Monday 3 December 2007

My Comp I teacher, Ms. Sevart, is recommending that I submit the following paper for the paper of the year award. I guess she thinks its not too bad. I already posted the first 1/3 of it, so my apologies if you already read that.  But now you can read the rest and start dreaming coming to work with me. (lol)

Random Story about Dad

Posted on Saturday 1 December 2007

Devotion to his family is a primary motivating factor for Dad. Although his unabashed commitment to his family is shown in many similar ways, a little incident last Saturday morning stands out in my mind as characteristic of his nature. My sister had just moved to a frosty attic bedroom several weeks ago, and was brainstorming for ways to better insulate it to keep out the encroaching winter’s chills. As I sat at my beloved computer desk in the corner of the living room doing my eternal homework, I could hear a conversation ensuing out in the kitchen. “Dad,” Rachel was saying, “don’t you think it would be easy to put a little insulation above my room?” I immediately choked on the chai tea I was sipping; just the thought of Dad picking his way through the 70 foot of claustrophobically-tight attic space on 2×4’s and fiberglass insulation was enough to give me itchy nightmares—and she was calling it easy! Besides, I was sure Dad had wood to split not to mention Saturday-loose-ends to wrap up for his carpentry home business. But Dad wasn’t thinking along those lines. Instead, he was scratching his chin, and trying to figure out a way to get a roll of insulation up in the grotto.

[ok, sorry, that is as far as the story goes]

Tumblr

Posted on Friday 30 November 2007

Guys! I just ran across the Tumblr service last night. I think its awesome because it has an easy way to post text, links, pictures, video, or whatever from my cellphone, etc. I’m looking for a way to get it to import into my blog, but I don’t have it integrated yet… so for now, add my Tumblr RSS feed (best choice), or visit it at http://lucentwarrior.tumblr.com. Mobile users can use http://lucentwarrior.tumblr.com/mobile

Ok, I’m sorry, I know you’re thinking, this is just another passing tech fancy (and it probably is), but I think this will seriously help to spice up my blogging life.

Now all I need is a 3 megapixel camera phone!

Hurray!!

Posted on Friday 30 November 2007

My stethoscope came today!!! It is a Littmann Lightweight II S.E. Even though it’s a relatively minor thing, it feels like a token of my authenticity as a real-live nursing student!! That is very exciting.

On other notes, I still have several vaccinations, a physical, scrubs and about 10 textbooks to get before Jan 14. Shouldn’t be too hard, but looks kinda expensive. Thank God for an employer who pays my tuition ($950 for the spring semester)!

I’m basically counting the days until Fall semester is done; I’m so burned out with school. I’m tired of being overwhelmed with homework, and would love to go somewhere where I don’t have to worry about anything after I clock out (e.g. work), plus makes money instead of the other way around. But probably by the time that school begins again in Jan, I’ll be so ready for *easy* (cough, cough) school again, lol.

Speaking of homework, I finally completed my research project on Internet Addiction for sociology. The project was arranged as a display board made of PowerPoint slides, which you can read here. Most of the students showed their boards on Wed. This is me and my board (Thanx MattH 4 the pic):

Here is a very interesting young individual who, among others, came to check out the boards:

Nisly activities Part I

Posted on Wednesday 21 November 2007

Some of the illustrious Nisly cousins are at the Metropolitan Coffee shop in Hutch.

“This is so Nislyish—two people are using laptops, there is one camera, and the rest are eating food.” –Rose Mary

Matthew is drinking a fruit smoothie because he says he prefers to “stay away from mind-altering drugs.” (All the rest are drinking coffee bean derivatives.)

Our ride to Metropolitan was quite interesting. Mark was leading (very foolish of him), and Kevin was in the middle, and Matt was leading the rear. After several misleading turns, and u-turn in Aldi’s and a cool maneuver to leave Kevin behind, Matt thoroughly beat everyone else.

Mark is messing around with this post, Matt is sitting there drinking raspberry smoothie and looking very clever. Rose Mary is messing around with Virgil’s camera. Nathan is sitting in the same chair as Jacob, making comments smartly. Jacob is sitting in the same chair as Nathan, caressing his 12oz gourmet dark roast, and making comments about the cold air. Virgil is sitting here, drinking his vanilla latte, and writing about everyone else, sitting “next” to Kevin, when I say, next, I mean NEXT! Kevin is sitting here and complaining about lukewarm mocha, about bad pictures, making bad hand signs, and such stuff (and bumping me when he reads what I write about him).  Verda is sitting here, with a thick coat on, drinking iced carmel latte, and sitting beside Sheri. Sheri is sitting here shooting pictures randomly, and a lot of them, also laughing wickedly about various things. Ryan is sitting in his own chair, working on his comp paper, and discussing fred phlips, and using his laptop.

hilarious story

Posted on Wednesday 14 November 2007

Here is a great story about facebook seen on TechCrunch today..lol. I especially like the last paragraph–that is so totally me (my emphasis).

A reader sends a touching email today, complaining that his Facebook account has been deleted for no reason:

Dear Michael,

I’m a college student at University of Michigan and Facebook has deactivated my account. I’ve noticed, from reading your blog, you have connections to Facebook’s staff. Can you please forward this email to someone or do something… I just can’t be a college student without Facebook. I did nothing to have my account deactivated… it just happened late Sunday night. I’ve emailed them, but they don’t care.

Steven
xxxx@umich.edu

I did a quick search for Steven on facebook but search is still down, so I have no idea if this guy’s profile is back up or not. And frankly, I don’t care all that much, ’cause the last thing I want is for everyone with a Facebook customer service issue to start emailing me.

But that sentence in the middle of the email that says “I just can’t be a college student without Facebook” fascinates me. What other brands have this kind of loyalty? Heroin?

Anyway, good luck in your quest to get Facebook to care about you again, Steven. And let me know how it all works out. I sincerely hope that this tragedy does not force you to drop out of college and…shudder…resort to becoming a MySpace user along with the rest of the unwashed masses.

General update

Posted on Tuesday 13 November 2007

I see it’s been a while since I really posted anything on here…I’ll have to admit that since I started using twitter and facebook so much, I sometimes forget the rest of my loyal peepz from all my former lives! :D

Well my main update right now is that school is pretty much taking up all my energies right now (at least it seems like it). I’m kinda at the time of the year right now where you sort of have a “I don’t care anymore” attitude about your classes.  That’s probably partly due to the current feelings of hopelessness that go with the *large* stack of daunting homework smirking at me, and shell-shocking effect of a couple of hopelessly ridiculous Microbiology tests (I got a 61% on the last one, which I am confident, is by far the worst grade I ever received on anything while at LCC).

So this week, I have a speech to prepare, a display board to complete (basically a research project) for sociology, a paper to write (thankfully only one page), and about four 7-page chapter summaries to write (microbiology). So yeah, pretty exciting.

Uhmm, let’s see, what else is there to say?  Not really much else. Oh yeah, I’m only taking two classes next semester (13 credit hrs)–intro to nursing (or something like that), and Comp II.  The Nursing class schedule will be decided for me (most likely MTW 0800-1200, and about two half days of clinicals??).  So yesterday, when the Spring Semester course schedule came out, I felt strangely lost since I had really no class schedules to stress over. On the other hand, I think that’s absolutely WICKED AWESOME!!!!!!

Ok, back to preparing my informative speech lol…
